Wait. So EVERYONE is Looking for Joey Cramer?

Longtime readers know that this blog was once very dedicated to finding Joey Cramer, the child actor who was the star of Flight of the Navigator.

We sent out a message to the universe to try to find him.

And then we found him, working in a sporting goods store in Canada.

Tonight, an anonymous tipster commented "Everyone is looking for Joey" and offered this link:

That link leads you to this article and this photo:
Sunshine Coast RCMP are requesting assistance from the public in the capture of Deleriyes Cramer wanted for seven warrants out of the Lower Mainland. According to Cpl. Steve Chubey, Cramer is alleged to have committed several cheque and fraud related crimes in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and RCMP believe he has ties to the Sunshine Coast. Chubey said Cramer is suspected of altering the name and/or the amount of cheques before cashing them at local financial institutions. He also has been known to use several aliases including Joe August Cramer, Joe August Deleriyes, Joe August Leighland, and Joe August Deleriyes Cramer. He is 38-years-old, 6’3” (183 cm), 179 pounds (81 kg) with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information to his whereabouts are asked to contact RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). — Submitted

This is not our Joey Cramer, is it?

This was the compare and contrast we did when we located our erstwhile Navigator in the sporting goods store:

These are not all the same people, are they?

This page goes into detail about various suspects the Royal Mounties are tracking. It says "

"CRAMER, Deleriyes Joe August Born: Aug. 23, 1973 Wanted in connection with File #2011-9051 Wanted for fraud."

When was our friend Joey Cramer born? Let's ask wiki. OH fuck. Wiki is not the most reputable site, because it cites this blog as a source. But it says that Joey Cramer, of Flight of the Navigator, was born on August 23, 1973.

Let's cross reference it with IMDB.

Oh, fuck.

If these facts all correct, then our beloved Joey Cramer now goes by Deleriyes Cramer and he has done some bad things and he is in trouble!

Joey Cramer, or Joe August Cramer, Joe August Deleriyes, Joe August Leighland, and Joe August Deleriyes Cramer -- whatever you're going by right now --

I am sorry if you've fallen onto some hard times. We still love you. Let the starcharts in your head be your guide.

I just saw him today in Surrey. He is Safe an getting better. Was so nice to see his face again. I have known him over 15 years now.

He should do (sci-fi) conventions, I'm sure people would pay money for his story and a signed photograph. To bad.

Anonymous said...

So whats the update on this? Anyone? Anyone?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know if he is in prison? I have seen flight of the navigator so many times. I feel like sending him money so he can buy some candy or something in jail if he is in jail. I hope he gets better. I think he could get back into acting.

Anonymous said...

No I don't believe so. No candy necessary

I've just watched "Navigator", forgotten how good a film, prob my intro to sci-fi! Wondering about the actor, Googled & found this, well good luck to ye Joey, shit happens to us all, depends how ye get your personal demons off yer back! All the best to ye mate. -Graham B ;-)

I remember watching the movie as a kid in Russia and this is one of the brightest memories of my childhood. We all practically knew the whole script by heart. It's amazing to be living in the same town with Joey and hope to meet him one day.

Anonymous said...

Good Luck Joey! Also from Italy! :)

FOTN was a magical film and influenced my childhood - It's a pleasure to see my 6 yr old discover it. Joey did just seem to disappear after this which is a shame. What is an even bigger shame is if the stories of his arrest n crystal meth abuse are true. I mean there is no going back after that stuff. Ruins lives. Saddens me when you think about what he couldve been. Bet those around him didn't forecast it back then. So the question is what has happened to him now?

Anonymous said...

This BREAKS my fucking heart. I had such a crush on Joey when I was about 13, got a summer job just so I could go see FOTN every other day in the theater all summer long. Been wondering what happened to him for the last 25 years. Googled him a few years ago and ... nothing. Figured (hoped, maybe) that this could be explained by Max taking him back to Phaelon. If only. Recently torrented FOTN in HD and thought I'd google my first teenage crush again. Am happy we found him alive, but immensely sad that it was in this shape. Thanks Bex [pat on the back], for coordinating the solving of this 25 year old mystery. Still love Joey (or whatever his name is now), no matter what. Wish the posts on this blog had dates...where is Joey now? I'd send him some money to ease my guilt for torrenting FOTN...

The police photo that is shown on the left in my opinion is not joey cramer. Look at the nose and the cheeks. Sure there the indivdual looks so much like joey cramer. But when you look at the nose on polise photo and compare it to the other two photos it cannot be him. Reason being is the person in the police photo has a nose that is drawn in on the side of the nostrils. Even if a person loses weight or so forth the nostril position doesnt change unless there was a nose job done. So as much as there are many people in the world that can be like each other same name and same similarities as i have found out personally recently. The police report seeking Joey Cramer is not the same Joey Cramer that we are all familiar with.

Well no actually being in deep deep addiction can drastically change your appearance .You don't eat you don't sleep. It's really damaging. But that was almost a year ago. That's all I can say...this is surreal though.

Flight of the Navigator alone could get him a new movie...even today...shit Joey do something please!!! Missourian here :)

Totally! Or you know what! Write a book. After reading all the comments about him on this blog it seems like he has plenty of experience to draw from! That was absolutely my favorite movie from my childhood. And this kinda bums me out. Hope it all ends well.

Wow.. I would give my left arm just to meet him!! Childhood crush.. Always have, always will. Your so very lucky to know him personally... Im so glad hes ok & doing good.

Just watching the flight of the navigator now and was curious to his whereabouts and if he had changed, I am sad to learn he was arrested for fraud but at least he is still alive. I think he should write an biography on his self and move away from crime before. He gets in too deep.

Anonymous said...

Sorry to hear about your present situation. You were wonderful in FOTN. I hope you can get out of the mess you appear to be in. I watched it again yesterday on British TV Channel. I can watch it over and over again, mainly because ofyour performance. Wish they chose someone like you for Home Alone. GOOD LUCK! God Bless.

I'm curious these days how someone can 100% literally stay off any camera radar and have nothing documented on the internet since 1990? How is that possible? No high school pictures? No friends or family showing him off on facebook?????

Anonymous said...

Wow it is nice to see fans sending out love and support. I used to date him about 10 years ago, back then he was a bartender in Vancouver. He was fun, super down to earth and had a heart of gold. He got out of the industry many years ago and to be honest I dint see much drive for him to get back into it.. Though I do believe he had a gift and is a very special soul and I would hope he can find is way back to a vibrant life. Acting or no acting, let's hope he just stays clean and away from the life that has been bringing him down. If any of his friends read this.. tell him the dancing girl he had a crush on that he later dated from the restaurant we worked at together says hello and that I miss his sweet smile.

Check out the following link (below) from the British Columbia provincial court system. Rest assured it is a legitimate government website and is totally safe. Type last name: Cramer, and first name: Deleriyes, then prove you're not a robot to the system by typing the numbers and letters displayed. You will see page after page of trouble Joey's been in with the law for many years; charges include use of firearms, death threats, theft, fraud, cocaine distribution, etc. Suffice it to say, he's a pretty heavy duty criminal. People should not be under any romantic dilusion that he is a nice guy. Perhaps back 'in the day' he was, but that is hard to say. It would appear though that he is a pretty mean dude nowadays.

kerry said...

This is just a guess, but it seems like he changed his first name to sound like "delirious". The poor guy needs help.

Anonymous said...

Actually, "Deleriyes" is a legitimate name and sources tell us that "Deleriyes August Joe Fisher Cramer" is in fact the name he was given at birth. Obviously "Joey Cramer" is basically a modification to be a stage name. The poor guy needs help, yeah I suppose. But we must not forget that this 'poor guy' is a danger obviously not only to himself, but to others around him. He is completely out of control.

Anonymous said...

I am posting this on May 22, 2013. Do we have an update about his situation or health? Is he on the right track? Does he have a girlfriend, wife, or fiancee? Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Pretty sure he's either still in jail or at least on probation for his recent fraud crimes. If he doesn't shape up, some judge is really going to 'throw the book at him' for being incorrigable. That does happen with criminals who repeatedly offend, even if the offences themselves are relatively small. He could do lengthy time some day. Perhaps that's one way he can sober up. As for his general condition, he's very elusive. Not many know much about him.

Anonymous said...

I am the poster who wanted to know how he was doing, etc. thank you for replying! I assumed he was probably on probation since the longest he spent in jail for the fraud charges was 6 months or so. If anyone knows if he's single and/or healthy, please let me know! :)

Anonymous said...

No problem. Glad to reply, although I didn't really provide you with any useful info, just speculation. I wonder if he actually reads these posts?? Too bad there isn't someone who actually knows him that can provide better info. Also too bad for a guy who's hitting 40 and still acting like a troubled teen. Guess if he hasn't grown up by now, he never will. What a shame, considering how gifted he was.
:(

Anonymous said...

Healthy? Seriously doubt it. He's probably taken just about every drug known by the sounds of it. The effects of many of those chemicals are permanent. Remember the old commercial from the 80's with the egg - "this is your brain, and this is your brain on drugs" as the egg fries? Just look at his recent mugshot. Face is practically rotting away. Let's just put it this way, he's not someone I'd want babysitting my two kids!!

Anonymous said...

Thanks y'all! I wish there was someone who knew more info as well. I quite familiar with drug use as my uncle was an addict from the time he was 17 until his death at 55 two years ago. But, look at Robert Downey Jr. He's doing quite well now. The difference between my uncle and Robert Downey Jr. Is my uncle had an enabler. RDJ wanted to change. These people have addictive personalities, and, if they ever want to change and can find something meaningful to commit to, they'll get better. Someone needs to treat the root of the problems and addiction as well as the problems and addiction.

Anonymous said...

Yes, very true. My condolences on your uncle. I too had a relative who passed away in his early fifties several years ago - he was a heavy substance abuser for most of this life. It's heart wrenching to see the helpless decay that takes place. I suppose it's easy for us 'sober ones' to sit on our high horses and judge those who are afflicted. We really don't understand what it's like to get trapped in that world. And truth is Joey Cramer is not the first nor the last of Hollywood/Disney kids to get trapped in that world. It almost seems to be the norm. Nevertheless, if Joey C. does not get the urgent help he needs, he too probably won't be long for this world.

Anonymous said...

Thank you! I agree. I hope he gets the treatment and help he needs. Life shouldn't be lived in misery. To me, seeking the help and treatment is a sign of strength, maturity, and completely hot (I know, the last part is silly!). Seeking help/treatment shouldn't be frowned upon or be shameful. I am not saying live a boring life but make life interesting without bringing extra grief and trouble in your life. I personally suffer from severe depression. I could easily turn to drugs and alcohol if I wanted to go the same route as my uncle. My uncle was bi-polar and ADHD, not that I am diagnosing Joey, and my uncle was self-medicating as a result of no one ever treating the problems at the start line.

Anonymous said...

Good for you for not turning to chemicals! And you're absolutely right. There is no shame at all in getting help. It is the brave, sensible and honourable thing to do. The very best of us from time to time need a helping hand. When you break your arm for instance, you go to a doctor, right? You don't try to fix it yourself. In other words you go to a trained professional. Well, this is no different. There should be no stigma attached with seeking help, no matter what it's for. Unfortunately Joey is probably so caught up in his sordid little world that he knows no other way. Not to mention he probably has a lot of bad dudes to watch out for now. Do you realize that during 1986 and 1987 he was in four movies, one after the other, and in addition a double episode of Murder She Wrote?! That kind of toxic Hollywood pressure on a pre-pubescent kid can have devastating effects. Especially when suddenly the work just dries up and he/she is then considered a has-been and no longer cute and desirable. He wasn't even credited 10 years later in It's My Party starring Eric Roberts. Why is that? Especially since it was Randal Kleiser that directed that film (he also directed FOTN). So many child stars have been chewed up and spit out. There should be strong laws in place against that! It's downright abuse. Granted, things are a fair bit better today, but back in the 80's there was no protection for child stars at all. In no way should anyone envy Joey, regardless of his fame and talent. Admire yes, but not envy. His life seems to have been nothing but a crazy rollercoaster with little room for stability or contentment.

Anonymous said...

Thank you! No, I don't envy. I admire his talent but I hope he finds stability and contentment. Finding that takes a lot of effort but well worth the time and energy. I also hope he receives the help and treatment and sticks with it. Although, from the looks of things, he's doing better as he's only been ticketed for something similar to open container, per his arrest records, since the fraud junk. Either he hasn't been caught doing anything wrong or he's getting his act together. I hope it's the latter.

Anonymous said...

In addition to my post above, I wish I could help him myself. I think he's in need of good people who understand but will keep him on the right track.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Although I suspect he is now a violent or somewhat violent individual. Based on his criminal record of course. It could stem simply from the drugs, but it's hard to tell. Truth is, we don't really know anything about him i.e. what is views are, what his personality is like. His more recent past (last 20 yrs. or so) has amazingly managed to 'escape' the eyes of the Internet. Think about it, not a highschool or FB picture, nothing. Whatsmore, we don't even really know what he was like as a kid. For all we know, he could have been a downright arrogant spoiled brat. Maybe he has a good heart underneath his problems, or maybe he's a plain sociopath and good at deceiving people - hence his great ability to act. We just don't know. The only people really in a position to answer that would be folks like Randal Kleiser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matt Adler - people who actually worked with him. To be honest, any kid who can convincingly pull off such a great range of emotions on the big screen like he did kinda makes me a little uneasy because one would never really know when the kid is sincere or just acting. It's too bad there isn't more input on this blog from others who know/knew him really well. But I suspect this blog is pretty well dead now. Sigh....

Anonymous said...

Yeah who knows? I agree with you. It's a sad state of affairs for him. I just wish there was some help for him. :)

A few yrs back 2008-2010 I was one of Joey's supplier of Opiates(Dilaudid,Meslon(Morphine) Oxycontin,Hydromorphone,Fenthanyland Methadone in a Northern BC TownJoey was down and out he was shoplifting for his everydy Dope! I cleaned up 3 yrs ego and if I could so can Joey he's in my Praers Hope he's better today!

Good for you! I am glad you are clean and sober. Stay strong. I hope he can clean himself up too. I know it's a hard habit to break as I am the one whose uncle passed away due to a lifetime of addiction. He is in my thoughts too.

I just came back from a trip to Vancouver. My first time in Vancouver in fact. Man o man, what a lively city, and the surrounding scenery (Stanley Park, LG Bridge, surrounding mountains) well it's simply breathtaking. I was taking a stroll down Granville Street and I saw a guy who I could've sworn was Joey. Would say a good 85% sure that it was him - same large oddly shaped ears, same wispy eye brows, same brown eyes and hair, same facial structure, etc. He was about 6 ft. tall which is Joey's height. The 'ears' part is certainly not meant as an insult, but Joey does have distinctive ears in case anyone hasn't really noticed. Compare his recent mugshot to his kid photos - same ears! Sad part is though that this guy was really down and out - picking up cigarette butts off the ground; he basically looked more or less homeless. Quite filthy too. I stood right beside him at an intersection and when he quickly glanced at me it was freaking spooky - like I was looking at a much older and very beaten up David Scott Freeman! Didn't have the guts to say anything to him becuase I didn't know what his state of mind was. If it was Joey, all one can say is that he ain't doing too well. Sad indeed. It really does remind us how anyone can fall into desperate times. To think that a guy who worked extensively with so many major stars (Tom Selleck, Howard Hesseman, Eric Roberts, Angela Lansbury .....) and was so wordly, charismatic and sophisticated - all destroyed. To think what he could have become. Those drugs really are the devil's work. :(

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to the fellow (recently posted as Joey's former supplier) on your recovery from drugs 3 years ago! Good for you! One can only hope that Joey sees the light. But unfortunately one has to wonder if it's really doable for Joey. Not that I'm downplaying other peoples' demons, but Joey has some really big crap to deal with. Even just psychologically alone - never mind the drugs. He's basically living in the shadow of his childhood. He probably feels that nothing he does now will ever measure up to what he accomplished as a kid. How on earth does one get over that?? Tough situation.

Anonymous said...

I'm confused. I thought Joey was living and working in Sechelt BC in 2009. Yet someone here claims to have been his dealer from 2008-2010 in a northern BC town. Sechelt is southern BC.

Anonymous said...

Joey worked at the sporting goods store from 2006 to 2007.

Anonymous said...

I wish I could do something to help him. That breaks my heart. I know this may sound hippy and a bit naive but he needs a good hug and someone who believes in him who can truly help him, if he wants the help. He obviously needs help.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to agree with you. That is a bit hippy and naive. Your intentions are certainly well founded and you are obviously a very warm hearted person. You clearly feel for him. But I think it's gonna take quite a bit more than a hug to help Joey out. Frankly, Joey is probably too far gone now. It sounds like he has taken probably just about every type of drug there is out there, and has probably done so for not years but decades. Even if he were to make a full recovery, his brain is probably so messed up now that he is likely incapable of doing much of anything. Well, that's just a wild guess anyway. Let us just pray though that he doesn't become another River Phoenix, Brad Renfro, or Cory Haim.

Anonymous said...

This whole conversation thread just got me thinking, and what I'm about to ramble on about is neither provable nor contestable. Nevertheless, it makes for what I think is interesting discussion. But it's only speculation and shouldn't be taken as either fact or gospel, nor is it an accurate character statement about any of the parties mentioned.

It's been said by many actors that Hollywood has a real drug scene when it comes to its private exclusive behind-the-scene parties. That's a no-brainer. But what's interesting is Matt Adler. As you all know, he played the older Jeff Freeman in FOTN. He was about 20 yo at the time (in reality, even though he played a 16 yo brother). Matt Adler did outright admit, even in a written article, to having taken drugs for many years in Hollywood from a relatively young age. Could there have been a link? If so, that means that Joey would have been exposed at age 12!! Such an early start would have gotten him very hooked since he obviously would have still been developing.

Anyways, total speculation, nothing more. But it is interesting (actually sad) that Joey's career was so short. Why? Problems on the set? Reluctance by agents/producers to offer? Even Macauley Culkin had a much longer career. Macauley certainly did get into drugs, but it seems he only did so a fair bit later in his youth. Right? Could Joey have gotten messed up so young that it derailed everything so early on? Or did he simply not want to act anymore? Macauley definitely had a cuteness factor about him and he was good, but honestly Joey was a much better actor. I mean c'mon!!

In my opinion, Joey was one of the best child actors of the 80's and was highly underrated and underappreciated. So why so short a career? Whatsmore, why wasn't he credited in It's My Party (1996), especially when he played a fairly significant role? And I might add that he acted out his homosexual role exquisitely. Of course, he's Joey Cramer! He certainly had a good rapport with Randall Kleiser 10 years earlier in FOTN. Kleiser and team picked him out of over 300 auditioners for FOTN. So why 10 years later did Kleiser not even credit him? It seems there was some bad politics at that point; a strained relationship maybe? Something clearly happened.

Does anyone reading this blog have more info/insight into this?

Anonymous said...

Yes, I know he needs more than a hug but it's a start. :). I do feel for him and wish things were different for him. I can be very tender-hearted too which lends itself to heartbreak easily too. :)

That wasn't Joey. That was Felix Pire.

Absolutely LOVE flight of the navigatior. One of my top 3 favourite childhood movies. Everyone falls sometimes but glad to hear Joey has picked himself up. I have had a MASSIVE crush on him always and sort out boyfriends that looked like him for many years.. Skuzzbucket!
Love from Australia :)))

Anonymous said...

Joey Cramer did in fact star in It's My Party (1996). I'm not sure who Felix Pire is. Joey played the young fellow in the black shirt. He was the transvesdite who said "announcing the arrival of Air Brazil" to which Bronson Pinchot's character responded "not in drag for once, are those your real eye brows?" to which Joey responded "no they're fake just like your tan". That was indeed Joey Cramer, or "Joe Cramer" as he was referred to at that point. You can tell it was him.

Further to Lil Gordo's comment - how do you know Joey has picked himself up?

Anonymous said...

Actually that is Felix Pire. Look him up on YouTube. He has an actor's reel on there, and he's the one who plays that character, not Joey.

Anonymous said...

Yes! You're absolutely right. That was Felix Pire, not Joey Cramer. So I guess Joey only makes a very fleeting appearance as a background party guest. It's funny, Felix Pire looks a heck of a lot like Joey. All this time I thought that was Joey. Guess you learn something new everyday. :)

Anonymous said...

I thought it was Joey myself until I looked the movie up on IMDB and noticed Felix Pire's picture in the credited actors section. I looked him up and voila he was the Brazilian character!

Anonymous said...

I know im late on this but they are remakeing flight of the navigator sucks if he dosnt get a cameo.

Anonymous said...

Yeah it would stink if Joey isn't in the remake of the Flight of the Navigator. Hopefully, if the remake is made, Joey is well enough to be in it and maybe the remake will help turn his life around. It's a step in the right direction for him.

Anonymous said...

You bet. It would be awesome if Joey could have a cameo, perhaps as one of the NASA scientists (?). And of course, don't tell the Gen X viewers; see if they notice him in the movie! All the kids looking up at their parents perplexedly as they cheer out. :)
But unfortunately Joey probably ain't well enough for it. Too bad. He's just too far gone. If that guy I saw on Granville St. a couple of weeks ago was him (see my previous comment a little further back), then I can assure you there is no cameo for him.
It's hard to believe that the director of the remake, Colin Trevorrow, is actually younger than Joey! Has time really slipped by that quickly. :(

Anonymous said...

Did the math, and actually Cliff De Young who played the father in FOTN was 40-41. Joey Cramer will be 40 this Aug.! So yeah, I guess time really has flown by. Yousers!
Let's hope Joey can find his way to a long, healthy and prosperous life from here on though.

Anonymous said...

This blog seems to have picked up in the last few weeks and a lot of folks have provided great comments and input. It's sort of 'resurrected' now. The blog is a little frustrating though because it seems that there is no one on it that actually knows Joey and what his status is. If Joey actually reads this blog, wonder if he thinks we're all nuts? Well, I guess if we see him in the new FOTN, then we know he is doing somewhat better.

Does anyone know when the new FOTN is out in theatres?

Anonymous said...

He probably thinks we're nuts!! LOL! Here's to hoping the homeless guy isn't Joey and he makes an appearance in the remake!! OMG, that would be fabulous!! That would make my day!!

Anonymous said...

We all seem to be of the same mindset that acting and doing movies (e.g. a remake of FOTN) is what Joey needs to get himself on track again. That may be true. But perhaps it's the complete opposite that we're not considering. Maybe it was showbiz itself that got him into this mess in the first place. So many young actors have ended up in dire straits (drugs, crime, etc.). I suspect that Joey may have had a troubled homelife and/or something really bad happened to him on the set. Cory Feldman, a highly experienced veteran kid actor, did reveal one of Hollywood's dark and dirty secrets some time ago. We can only speculate as to why Joey took the path he did. But obviously something bad happened. Apparently though, his mother is quite the old hippie - maybe there was a bad influence there? Who knows.

Anonymous said...

Who knows why he took the path he took? Only he does, really. I agree, something bad happened along the way. I wish he would seek the help he needs and find a passion for something positive, be it acting, writing, etc., just not drugs and criminal activity.

Anonymous said...

I dated Joe for a short time about 10 years ago. I got him a job on a tv commercial I was working on and hooked him up with my agent. He'd recently had his teeth fixed after years of meth abuse and I genuinely thought he was cleaning up his act. Its so sad to hear his demons were too strong and he reverted back. He had a heart of gold when I knew him but was surrounded by too many enablers. When I left Vancouver he told me I was the only person in his life who had never asked him for anything or wanted something from him. I really hope he was just being very kind and it wasn't true because he deserves so much more. He'll always have a place in my heart.

Anonymous said...

So he was actually in a commercial? Cool! Just out of curiosity, what was the commercial for? Did it play for any extended period on TV?
I always wondered what Joey was like in real life. I mean, exquisite actor of course ... but one never really knows what the person is actually like. Right? There was always something very ominous about him though - it's hard to explain. Even at 12 you could see something disturbing in his eyes. An emptiness perhaps. Again, hard to explain. You mention demons. I would assume that he had actual personal issues aside from the drugs themselves? Demons that got him into drugs in the first place?
I'll tell you though, when I heard the recent news about Cory Monteith in Van City, it immediately brought me to thinking of Joey. Again, looking at pics of Cory you could see the same emptiness in the eyes. No? Let's pray Joey doesn't go off into that lonely night like Cory did.

I wonder what he did with that orphan critter he took from the space ship?

Anonymous said...

LOL. The little pukamaron. Yeah, his younger brother Jeff probably accidentally stepped on it at some point. Or maybe Bruiser (the dog) ate it. Not to mention how weird it would be for David Scott Freeman to finally arrive at 1986 as a 20 year old knowing that he had already been there at age 12. Seeing Carolyn McAdams again; hey this time he could actaully ask her out! Boy, I sure hope that somehow Joey Cramer can be in the new remake - but it don't look too promising. But hey, ya never know. :)

Anonymous said...

So, I wonder what Joey will be doing to celebrate his 40th coming up. Will it be a 'sober' event?? Only in a little over two weeks from now. Wow, 40! Hard to believe the last we saw him he was only 12. Where the hell does the time go?

Anonymous said...

I'd love to celebrate with him! I'd keep it a sober one!

Yeah, I'd keep it sober too. But the question is, will he keep it sober?

Aha, gotcha. An amourous admirer are we? :) That's alright.
Yeah, I guess I can see the attraction women would have. I mean, f'd up life aside, he does have a certain magnetism and obviously he is or was once really talented. And he is after all Joey Cramer!
But if I was a gal and wanted to, well um you know, give him dessert, I would really be afraid of any little unwanted friends he may have floating in his body - you know, with the kinda life he's led, well ........ chances are.

Anonymous said...

True about the germs!! ;)

Anonymous said...

And yet knowing that you'd still give him desert?!! Is the attraction for the boy that powerful? Hey, you're totally entitled to your preferences; I ain't here to judge. :)
I guess I just don't understand this world. So many gals (I assume you're a gal) go for the popular/bad boys.
I mean look at Justin Beiber. A total punk without any character. Nothing there. But, he sings a few songs (not really that well either) in baggy pansy pants and so so many girls are crazy for him. I suppose his 100 million + in the bank doesn't hurt either.
Nevertheless, this whole world is topsy turvy. Just don't get it.

Anonymous said...

Haha! He'd have to get clean first before anything serious came about but protection is a must with the dessert. Yes, I am a gal. I would be completely supportive of his sobriety and would not be a detriment to his success as a sober, healthy individual.

I have known Joey Cramer for about 25 years. It is with great sadness I can report that Joey is totally off the radar at this point. I haven't spoken to him in over 5 years and haven't seen him in closer to 10. Joey was at one point working at the sports store and doing OK but as we can all see he has fallen on extrememly difficult times. I wanted to address some of the bloggers here who seem to want to know what Joey was really like as a person? I can tell you Joey is a soft, gentle, kind and loving person with deep emotional scars that drive his addiction. I personally have been in recovery for 6 years and know the shame and guilt Joey must be carrying each day-I pray for him to see a ray of light towards change. It is never too late to ask for help - and if Joey is reading this please know how many people love you and mourn your absence each day. Please get the help you need because you are worth it and remember that you are not a bad person but you have a very bad disease that wants to see you dead so at this point it is very much life or death so choose wisely my old friend. Yu ye sum se um lo chut but gow sum-only Joey and a few of our closest friends will know this is something between Joey and I so he can know who the writer of this note is and I can remain anonymous here. All the love to everyone holding a candle for Joey-he needs it now more than ever xxo

Such a touching note and especially relevant given his big day of "four-zero" tomorrow! Quite a few bloggers here have claimed to know him. Often I doubt the validity of those claims for obvious reasons. But I believe that you indeed know him, simply by the way you wrote that message. It's too close and personal for it to be a fraud. Either that, or you're a really good deceiver. :) Nah, I believe you.

Who knows where Joey is now. Just hope that the gutters of Van City haven't swallowed him up like so many lost souls you see along East Hastings. And congrats on your path to recovery. Good for you!! I suspect (and correct me if I'm wrong) that Joey is a very deep, complex, sensitive and artistic soul who, perhaps, may have been hurt real bad in his young formative years.

Drugs. Yep, the devil's work. Joey is too good to succumb to that shit. Man, it seems just like yesterday when we saw him on the big screen so full of life and energy.

Just to show you though, when a person achieves fame, no matter how long ago it may be or even for how short a period it may have been, that person will always be under the spotlight. Especially when that fame is Hollywood related. If another common everyday sap were to be in the same bad situation as Joey is now, there wouldn't even be a blog about him. Makes you think that maybe Joey is off the radar only because he needs to get the heck away from everyone. Can't really blame him!! Look at all us, totally obsessed about a person we really don't know. Guess we have nothing better to do. LOL

Hans said...

Good luck Joey! Just watched Flight of the Navigator for the 10th time with my 2 year old son, who started liking it when I watched it again after having seen it 20+ years ago.
Still like it a lot and wished I could help you - but I hope you helped yourself by now. Thanks for what you gave, time to harvest something better than bad luck friend!

Looks like Joey has gotten himself in trouble again. This time, breach of probation order in mid August (Surrey BC). More precisely he has committed the following:

Defn.: 733.1. Failure to comply with probation order
733.1 (1) An offender who is bound by a probation order and who, without reasonable excuse, fails or refuses to comply with that order is guilty of:

(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or

(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding eighteen months, or to a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars, or both.

According to the BC Provincial Court Website, his bail was set at 500. Doesn't seem like a lot. But it seems he just can't stay out of trouble no matter what. Now 40 and still caught up in his crappy little world. Hate to say it, but I really think this boy is doomed. :(

What a glorious start to the new year. BBC2(UK)have just shown FOTN and I must say that it is way up there in my top 10 of favourite films.

No idea if what is being said on here is true but if so, I feel for you Joey pal.

If you're reading this, stay safe and thanks for the memories.

Unsurprisingly most child actors/actresses were abused to an extreme level. Hence why you hear about ex child actors on drugs, in prison or have passed away.

Just like any child that has been abused and hasn't been offered help, the opportunity to get help, the desire to get help or even to tell anyone about the demons in your past.

I hope Joey didn't experience any of this.

Hollywood ain't all glam, twinkle lights, fast cars, money etc.....It's a shark infested water and if *they* tell you to do something and you don't or won't, then be prepared to be either drowned or fed to the...ahem.*sharks*

Research it for yourselves, it's beyond comprehension but it's true, there is probably 5 degrees of separation to child actors, it doesn't apply to ALL child stars.

Anonymous said...

Numbing the pain with drugs, alcohol etc

Anonymous said...

Yes, so true about it being shark infested waters! I strongly suspect that Joey did experience abuse, either in Hollywood and/or his personal life. As one blogger a few months ago wrote, and I quote:

"I can tell you Joey is a soft, gentle, kind and loving person with deep emotional scars that drive his addiction."

The message that blogger left did seem very genuine i.e. not a fake. Obviously Joey experienced some pain in his life. Now, whether it was actually at the time of FOTN, earlier, or later or all the way through is anyone's guess. But think about it, he did four movies and a double episode of Murder She Wrote, all within a two or so year period (86, 87). Come on folks, chances are the sharks must have messed him up at some point. Just imagine the shear pressure alone, especially for a 12-13 yo kid. Kid actors had no protection in the 80s. Look at Cory Feldman, Cory Haim, River Phoenix, etc. All deceased.

We can only hope that Joey 'somehow' pulls through and defeats his demons. But everytime one looks at the BC Court Registry page, there is new charge after new charge. It's downright depressing. No, it's very sad.

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute ... Cory Feldman is not deceased. He's alive and well.

According to court records Joey appeared in court in Port Coquitlam 9 a.m. On Monday the 27th. This was in relation to this breach of probation charges. Poor guy I hope he gets better.

Been watching the second season of Breaking Bad lately. Bryan Cranston sure is an amazing actor and really shows how the world of meth (or any harsh narcotics for that matter) really turns one life to crappola. Whether one cooks meth, or worse still uses it, that is a dark world from which very few escape. Kinda like a black hole for those astronomy nerds out there. Because it seeps into every aspect of life i.e. everything fails - social interactions, relationships, self control, mood, self-esteem, financial management, physical state and appearance - everything crumbles to shit. No wonder so few escape, that is if there is enough left of them to re-assemble.

I bet we probably wouldn't even recognize Joey if we were to see him now.

Seriously doubt that Joey is gonna make it out of this. I know, that's pessimistic. But come on, he's 40 now! If he was 17, I might say OK maybe, given the right guidance and so on. But 40 now. He's probably used just about every drug available, including good ol meth. What a bloody shame that such a magnetic, talented, and charming kid could fall into such an abyss. It's like that Genesis song - Throwing It All Away.

I wonder if Joey ever Googles himself and reads this blog. Would our comments have any effect on him? Would he even care or get pissed off?

Mar. 30, 2014... really curious as to how he's doing... STRANGE coincidence: I had no idea Joey was from the Vancouver area, I just happened to be watching the movie just now and Googled him and found this page... I recently was homeless and shooting heroin and meth on the streets of Vancouver for about two years, I wonder if we ever crossed paths? Joey if you're reading this, please know there are real people out there who can totally sympathize with your problems, and I hope you leave the drugs scene, I'm not going to preach or pretend to know you but I do know what you started out as on the big screen; you brought so much beauty to our lives and imaginations as kids growing up in the 80s... I believe that beautiful person is still inside. Please don't lose him. Hugs and kisses from a true fan.

3-Apr-2014 --- Just finished watching the whole series of Breaking Bad. It's funny, isn't it, how Hollywood makes light of everything. I suppose that's "entertainment". Yes, I will say that the show was superbly done. Phenomenal acting! A great series really.

However, it's really quite, um well, infurtiating how Tinsel Town makes light of such a profoundly serious problem (epidemic!) like meth. Those of us who have never travelled the dark path (me included) cannot even begin to comprehend what it must be like. The absolute grip it has on someone's life, not to mention the anguish, shame, humiliation, ... the eventual physical and mental deterioration that follow.

Unfortunately Joey has travelled that dark lonely path. And, it's that same toxic Tinsel Town industry that was probably the catalyst that kick-started him on that path. I seriously doubt that Joey reads this blog, but if he does, he should know there are many people out there who sincerely wish him well. Seriously Joey, there are!

August 2, 2014 Just stumbled across this blog.... Wow! He's sure loved, including by me. I met him about 6-7 yrs ago while my ex was getting clean at the same time but as addicts know it is a constant struggle to remain clean. Joey's got a heart of gold & is very humble. I hope that he makes it through and doesn't become another statistic.

Anonymous said...

6-Aug-2014 - That's for sure. Joey sure is loved, or at least admired on some level. Even people who have never met him or know anything about him seem to 'sense' that there is something special about him. Regardless of the fact that he is basically troubled. Interesting. I mean it's been almost 30 years since the rest of us saw him on the big screen! Yet a lot of us seem to gravitate towards him. There is some charm or likability about him.

Quite opposite to a person like J. Beiber who you really can't help but dislike.

Six or seven years ago ... you must have met Joey very shortly after he worked at the Trail Bay Source for Sports in Sechelt.

Hello at all, sorry for my bad english.
i am from germany and i saw this film in my childhood
it was my absolute favorite film !
i am very depressed to hear what is happen with him now !!
For years I have not known how the movie was, I only had the quotes in remembrance.
Then, some time ago I heard an old Beatles song again and it occurred to me that this was to be heard in the movie so well.
I looked at what a beatles it was and then looked him in this film which seemed to sing as the title of the film re-experience!

i wish cramer the best, i hope he feels better in future...
btw i create with other guys a new wikipedia side on cramer, i hope its nice and perhaps it helps him a little to get new popular and famous.

Anonymous said...

BTW, if you wanna know where he is, why you not ask his old employer, perhaps he know it

Anonymous said...

Actually your English is really not that bad. Yes I agree with you, it really is too bad about Joey. I will definitely check out your new Wikipedia site on him.

On another unrelated note, it's coincidental that you're from Germany as "Cramer" is originally derived from the Bavarian "Kramer" (correct me if I'm wrong on that). In fact, many German people have the name Cramer (spelt with a C instead of a K). Which probably means that Joey himself has some German heritage. Come to think of it, I always thought Joey had very Germanic features.

Anonymous said...

Yes perhaps .
But he also looks Mixed he has very Brown hair, he looks german, but native Indian and Irish too :)
So perhaps he talk with us here and tell us more about his Family Background:)

Anonymous said...

Hmmm, native. I never thought of that. A lot of Canadians, including myself, have some native background. Somehow he doesn't really look native to me. Joey has some Irish, perhaps. Although a lot of green (original Catholic) Irish are actually very black-haired and blue-eyed (I know this because I have Irish ancestry as well). However, his actual first name is "Deleriyes" which by all accounts is Irish. So you're probably right. After all, more and more people are of mixed origin as time progresses.

I was thinking Joey is of the Bavarian lineage though. Aren't Bavarian people somewhat darker than most other German people? His structural features just look German (albeit darker) to me.

Wondered for some time now if Joey actually reads this blog. Doubt it though as he probably has much bigger problems to tend to these days. :(

Joey Cramer spotted in Ottawa Ontario on 21-Sep-2014 at a Marks Work Wearhouse store.

Anonymous said...

not the same man, ears dont lie

Anonymous said...

Ears? Absolutely. Ears are just like fingerprints. But that's precisely it. Joey has very distinctive ears and they were conveniently covered up at the Marks store. With a touque I might add. Who the hell wears a touque in September? And the way this guy was acting ... very uneasy, looking straight ahead at the cashier, almost as if he were running from something. No way Jose, I would bet the bank it was him. Same facial features (after years of abuse mind you), same golden-brown eyes, height roughly 6 feet or 6 foot 1 with the shoes. It was him. He was also with a chaperone (a buddy) who seemed to keep a close watch over him. I was tempted to whisper quietly "Joey Cramer" but who could say this guy wouldn't have totally flipped on me.

I took Joey to L.A. to audition for Flight of the Navigator. And I also remember singing endless Beachboy's songs as he learned the lyrics for the movie. He was a dear little boy. Unfortunately the transition from child actor to adult can be a rocky road.

Anonymous said...

Just finished watching FOTN. I hadn't seen it in 20+ years. Googled Joey and find this. Joey transformed by childhood and made it magical as well. I am going over old films from my childhood to reflect and understand how they shaped and influenced me into the person I am today. Movies truly can tranform someone into good or bad. I have some fame but no fortune (monetary speaking) but have a full rich life. For what it is worth, thank you Joey for your brilliant acting. You, as a kid, I wish I got a chance to meet you (I am 4 years younger than you). Remember this RDJ made a comeback, So Can You. You are a legend in many peoples books. I look forward to your massive return into the spotlight. However, this time, much wiser than before. Don't fall back into traps and get in and out while the getting is good. You can do it! Peace!

I'm a big fan of FOTN. Joey's performance in the movie was fantastic. It's a classic film which no doubt would not have lasted and made so much an impact, had Joey's charisma and acting skills not been so strong.

I grew up on three movies. E.T, The Goonies, and of course Flight Of The Navigator.

I'm really sad and sorry to hear that Joey's fallen on hard times. I hope he manages to pick himself back up.

And if you're reading this, Joey (who knows, right?) Do it for you. You deserve better.
